December 2020 COVID-19 POLICY Statement
From Dr. Jeffrey Coleman

Well it's December 2020 and strange to think it was one year ago that we first began to hear of a new strain of a Coronavirus that was puzzling and frightening the medical community.  I am hopeful and optimistic that we will see a turn toward improvement in the Spring of 2021 as we all continue to practice safety precautions, we all seek and receive an approved and safe vaccine, and we continue to develop heard immunity.  Our office has been busy while at the same time carefully controlling the number of people we see and allow in the office at any one time in an effort to keep everyone as safe as possible.  We have been and will continue to operate in compliance with the AOA, our NC State Optometric Society, the CDC, and other authorities, keeping current with procedures and protocols to assure safe operation.

The COVID-19 virus spreads easily and quickly and unfortunately can be spread by individuals who don't feel sick.  The ONLY way to keep yourself well is to REDUCE contact with others.  This is almost impossible as we all need basic necessities but if we ALL DO OUR PART to limit contact with others, we may help LIMIT THE SPREAD.

We have prepared our office and trained our staff to be in compliance with safety rules and we have taken these measures to assure your safety when you visit our office:
  1. Staff and patients will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the office.  Please bring a mask if possible but we plan to be able to supply a mask to those who do not have one.
  2. We ask that only the individual seeking care enter the office unless assistance is required.  Please do not, if at all possible, bring family members or friends to your visit.  We will ask that all others wait in their vehicles and will be called when and if needed to assist in the patient's care.
  3. We will screen everyone entering the office by questioning for symptoms or known exposure to COVID and take a temperature when possible.  Those who fail the screening will be asked to reschedule and self quarantine as well as seek advice from their PCP.
  4. We have reduced seating in our waiting area to create social distancing and we will avoid having more than 4 people in the waiting area at any one time.
  5. We will be spreading our scheduling out so that we all limit exposure to one another and we have ample time to disinfect exam rooms between visits.
  6. We will ask everyone entering the office to step to the restroom to wash hands or use as available, hand sanitizer prior to your visit.
  7. We have installed shields in and around the office at check in and check out areas as well as around certain instruments as possible to reduce face to face exposure.
  8. We will have in use UV-C germicidal lamps that sanitize exam and office spaces between visits and overnight.
  9. Gloves will NOT be required by individuals entering the office but office staff may use gloves as necessary with certain exam procedures.

We have always treated our staff and our patients like a one big family and we are trying to protect that big family and our community at large.  We have always relied on and appreciated your support of our practice and we appreciate it now more than ever along with your patience and calm in the face of perceived chaos.  We will get through this!
